Caroling Contest in CDO at SM City on December 16
Good News to all Christmas carolers in the City of Golden Friendship, a twin event featuring the annual lantern and choral group contest dubbed as “HALAD SA PASKO 2008: “Indigay sa Parol and “Bangga sa Daygon” is set on December 16 at SM City Atrium in Cagayan de Oro City.
This is a joint endeavor of the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through the City Tourism Office under City Tourism Officer Imma Rae Gatuslao and the City Tourism Board led by Chairperson Josy Aliñabon, in partnership with SM City Cagayan de Oro.
The “Indigay sa Parol” is a lantern contest open to all barangays of the city. Each entry must be endorsed by the Punong Barangay. The lantern must be made of recyclable and reusable waste materials and must be all-weather. Participants should provide their own lantern stands that will be displayed at the SM City Atrium during the event.
The lantern will be judged according to the following criteria: artistry (30%), craftsmanship/creativity (30%), uniqueness (20%) and message/concept/over-all presentation (20%).
The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of P17,000 plus trophy, while the second and third prize winners will get P12,000 and P8,000, respectively plus trophies.
All winning lanterns will become a property of the City Tourism Board and SM City Cagayan de Oro.
On the hand, the “Bangga sa Daygon” is a choral group contest open to all glee clubs and choral groups of elementary schools (private and public) in Cagayan de Oro City compose of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 singers including the instrumentalist.
The theme of the presentation, including the costume and choreography of performers, is left to the discretion of the choral group based in their own interpretation on how to venerate The Holy Child Jesus without desecrating the Child God as the object of worship.
The choral group will render only one piece, medley or single and must be a Tagalog or Visayan Christmas song with a live accompaniment only.
The choral group must provide their own musical instruments. Each choral group is given 10 minutes to perform excluding the entrance and exit. A deduction of two points for every excess minute will be imposed.
All choral groups are prohibited from using flammable materials such as fireworks and pyrotechnics. A deduction of five points shall be imposed against any group who violates this provision. And the school principal must sign the registration form.
Criteria for judging include voice, 40%; rhythm, 15%; choreography, 20%; diction, 15% and costume, 10%.
Top prize winner will receive P25,000 plus a trophy, while the second and third placers will go home with P20,000 and P15,000 cash prize respectively, plus trophies.
Elimination round for both the “Indigay sa Parol” and “Bangga sa Daygon” contest will be held on December 12, Friday, 3:00 PM at the SM Atrium.
The final competition will be staged on December 16, Tuesday, at 4:00 pm at SM Atrium.
