Vessels collide in CDO pier
A foreign vessel slammed into a docked cargo vessel in Macabalan pier in Cagayan de Oro City, Wednesday morning, raising fears of possible oil spill.
Dennis Labay, Philippine Coast Guard administrative manager, said water immediately sifted through M/V Sko’s engine compartment after it was rammed by a foreign vessel marked Cordoba carrier around 6 a.m.
Labay said the coast guard was still investigating the accident. He said that based on initial investigations, the foreign vessel overshot the docking area, causing the accident.
The coast guard official said drops of oil from the cargo vessel’s fuel compartment have started to leak.
“Natakpan na namin ang fuel compartment,” he said, adding that the coast guard will continue to monitor the damaged vessel to prevent a possible sea oil spill.
Labay said no one was hurt in the incident. – report from Maricel Butardo, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
