Laguindingan Airport Opening on April 30, Postponed!

Laguindingan Airport opening on April 30, 2013 was pushed to June 15, 2013 by the DOTC – Department of Transportation and Communications. It has been so inconvenient for the passengers who bought tickets earlier prior to the announcement of the abrupt transfer of their flights to the new Laguindingan Airport.

Laguindingan Airport

Passengers like us who already bought tickets for our May flights few months ago were a bit confused of what airport we will be checking-in, since we just bought our tickets from a travel agency and only the agency will get the email notifications for some changes of flights from the airline companies, if the agency fail to inform us with some changes, then our travels will be going crazy. It will be going crazy because the public transportation to the new airport are not yet fixed. Taxi cabs will be charging an enormous rate to passengers going there, some doesn’t even know where the new airport is located and what route they should follow, etc.

Laguindingan Airport

According to DOTC, The postponement will give the airlines ample time to inform their customers of their new flight schedules at Laguindingan Airport. This will lessen the possibility of disrupting travel plans and causing inconvenience to the riding public. That is good because you cannot just change the flight schedules right away and it’s hard to please all the passengers specially those who have flight schedules during the night, since night flights are not yet possible at the Laguindingan Airport because the government announced earlier that the Laguindingan airport will be temporarily operated by CAAP using Visual Flight Rules until its air navigation equipment is fully in place by May 2014. CAAP was still in the process of acquiring runway lights for the Laguindingan airport, flights can only operate during the day.

They should make sure everything is in place before transferring flights to the new airport; it should be functional 100% for all kinds of flights before transferring all flights there.

They should think first for the passengers’ convenience and not their excitement to operate in the new airport.

With the total land area of 3,081.1 km², Misamis Oriental is the gateway of Mindanao which composed of 23 municipalities and 2 component cities which are situated along the coastline. Because of the location, the province is blessed with nice beaches, springs, waterfalls, rivers and forests one of the best tourist destinations in the region.
With the provincial tourism officers and other media people, I was lucky to experienced the 1st ‘Pasiyo sa Misamis Oriental’, a 3-day tour around the province to experience and introduce to the blooming tourist spots of the Municipalities of the province.

Pasiyo sa Misamis Oriental

Most locals, tourists and visitors alike considers the municipalities of Misamis Oriental as pathways only to other destinations in Mindanao. When you are going to the western part, you’ll just passing by the 9 municipalities and the 14 municipalities to the eastern part when you are going to that direction. Most people fail to appreciate the tourist destinations of the province that can offer, because of that the Pasiyo sa Misamis Oriental opened our eyes of the tourist potential on the key areas of the province.
