I don’t know if I was impressed or troubled when I first saw the news on TV about how Mayor Sara Duterte of Davao and a lawyer by profession punched the sheriff over a demolition of shanties inside a contested property in Barangay Soliman in Davao’s Agdao district.

I was astounded how she fearlessly confronted angrily the demolition team between the fighting residents. I think that’s the kind of Mayor Cagayan de Oro City needs, to discipline the Cagay-anons. Even before, I admired how Davao City was managed by a very brave Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and been looking forward to have such kind of Mayor in Cagayan de Oro City. But until now, CDO residents still fail to elect a Mayor with solid way of thinking to govern the people such as Davao’s fearless Mayor Duterte.

I understand Mayor Sara Duterte why she acted that way and punched the Sheriff, because they asked the demolition team to wait for the results of the motion they requested at the court but they were ignored. I think she was just exhausted from the flash flood that destroyed the Talomo district and there’s this demolition team tearing houses of residents.

The whole nation felt so sad about what happened in Davao lately because of the flood, and even hundreds of residents were homeless and still needs help but on the other side of the city this is what was happening. Could they just reschedule the demolition after? I think that’s the best action to do right now. How could they get busy with the demolition when the people on the other side are still healing for losing houses and family members over the recent flood?

I know Mayor Sara Duterte could possibly face the charge for violating the Republic Act No. 6713 the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. So what? For me, she just did the best thing a Mayor could do in a situation like that. That’s a very good lesson for people who just follow orders like puppets without considering the other people. I know they are just following court orders but it won’t kill them if they will wait or just do it in a peaceful way. They don’t need to be in a hurry because lives are involved here, any person will fight against people who will destroy his home.

I salute Mayor Sara Duterte for showing bravery to protect her people, but next time I hope she will just cool a little bit down in situations like that.

The extortion attempt that the Committee of German Doctors received last month set off to close the German Doctors Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City today Thursday, June 23, 2011 indefinitely. After hearing the news, faces of some patients who are still waiting in line for their turn to avail the free medical services turns into sadness from being bored of falling in-line to have their turn for the free medical service. You can picture out from their faces the broken hopes and uncertainties about their future health if this would go on permanently.

This afternoon, people who are relying, benefiting and those who supports the German Doctors Humanitarian Services gather together at the Plaza Divisoria in Cagayan de Oro, particularly at the Kiosko Kagawasan (Freedom Kiosk) for a rally. I heard their sentiments about how they are dying to let the German Doctors stay and continue their free services in the city, they are tearfully asking Mayor Emano to make such effective actions to protect the security of the German Doctors and to stop the threat and extortion attempt that has been going on against them.

People gathered at Kiosko Kagawasan this afternoon June 23, 2011, Thursday to join forces to ask the City Government to help them stop the extortion attempt against German Doctors in CDO.

I even interviewed one person who is also part of the rally and asked him about his opinion on this issue. He said that without the German Doctors, probably he is already dead long time ago, he is dependent with the German Doctors with his illnesses. Everytime he needs medical attention, the only hospital that he can get such medical services for free are from the German Doctors. He is also getting his free maintenance medicine regularly from the German Doctors Hospital, though he needs to fall in-line everytime but it pays to have his free medicine monthly. He said that the hospital is his life and he respects all the doctors who practiced on the said hospital.

Another woman tearfully said that she had her ovarian operation for free from them and she is so thankful for such group of people doing such humanitarian missions to help other people without asking any monetary benefits in return. I even shed a tear hearing their stories and their sentiments on the rally for the said issue and how they are helpless to stop such circumstances.

So to the Mayor of this booming city of Northern Mindanao, the people believe in your capability to stop such incident and to permanently immobilize this groups who are the cancer of the society. With you (Mayor Emano), the people of CDO are asking for your assistance to assure the safety of the German Doctors and their families, so that they can continue their humanitarian missions to the people.

Accordingly, the extortion attempt was coming from the communist New People’s Army (NPA) asking for P5 million, but Mayor Emano guaranteed that the extortion letter was not coming from the NPA but was just some opportunist bandits, lately someone from the NDF called him on the phone denying the extortion attempt that has been sent to the Committee of German Doctors the other week. The news said that the National Democratic Front (NDF) is to issue an official statement soon to deny the allegations against them.

I just hope this are not the NPA groups because I somehow respect the views of some people who joins them, but doing such dishonourable acts will somehow retracts my show of consideration for their stance.

It’s like over 20 years since I last heard and sang this song. That was on my elementary graduation ceremony and after that, I never heard it being played anywhere in the city, or maybe it has been played around public elementary schools in the City of Cagayan de Oro every graduation ceremony, but I never did attended any elementary or even high school graduations then, of course excluding mine.

Last year, I searched this song online if somebody ever uploaded a recording or video of the song but unluckily, I never found any. Even the lyrics of the song there’s nothing I found online.

I am not sure if this has been always played at the City Hall of Cagayan de Oro every Monday during their weekly flag raising ceremony, because I am also not a government employee, so there’s no way or no chance that I attended a flag ceremony there.

Today, this song suddenly played on my mind but I can only remember the chorus, so I tried searching on Youtube to check if finally somebody have uploaded the song and luckily yes and has lyrics on it! I can now complete the lyrics of the song everytime I want to sing it.

But to the locals of CDO, don’t you agree with me if this song should be populated all over CDO and will be sung during big public events in the city? Though I am not sure if this is the official Cagayan de Oro theme but I think I never heard any Cagayan de Oro theme before.
