The Cagayan de Oro City

Cagayan de Oro City has been tagged as the Gateway to Northern Mindanao, ICT Goldmine of the Philippines, City of White Water Rafting & River Trekking, A City in Bloom, in Blossom, and in BOOM! But it is popularly named as the City Of Golden Friendship.

Welcome to the City Of Golden Friendship!

Cagayan de Oro City lies along the northern coastline of Mindanao. The provincial capital of the province of Misamis Oriental and the regional center and the most populous highly-urbanized city in Northern Mindanao (Region 10).

Boosting the establishment of many businesses in Cagayan de Oro and the nearby areas help grows the economy in Northern Mindanao and it is now the largest in Mindanao. Cagayan de Oro became the primary transshipment hub especially around the Visayas - Mindanao area because of the city’s strategic location & modern transport infrastructure.

The City belongs to the Mindanao’s largest industrial agglomeration called the Cagayan-Iligan Corridor (CIC). Where major infrastructure projects are planned for the area like an international standard airport & a modern railway system. Cagayan de Oro City is the city which has the two of the Mindanao’s busiest seaports, the Cagayan de Oro Port & the Mindanano International Container Terminal (MICT). PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate which is the country’s largest industrial park also is operating here. Cagayan de Oro is ideal for investors to put up their businesses because it is one of the fastest growing local economies because they find the city’s strategic location & good peace and order situation an ultimate object of endeavor fro their business. So, I can assure that Cagayan de Oro is far from the war zone in Mindanao.

What I love the most is that Cagayan de Oro is rarely visited by a typhoon since it is outside the Pacific typhoon belt. Even Philippines has been visited with more than ten typhoons each year, Cagayan de Oro is still far from the typhoon’s power.

Cagayan de Oro has plenty of recreational tourist spots and resorts to visit.

Gaston Park and Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral - Where people from different walks of life hear the mass at SAMC and unwind at the Circle of Gaston Park every Sunday around the City’s old water fountain at the center of the park.

Whitewater river rafting and kayaking - Cagayan de Oro gained popularity because of the whole year round rafting season. People from Luzon, Visayas and the neighboring places in Mindanao come to the city to experience the city’s pride and number one tourist attraction… The Whitewater Rafting. Even President Macapagal-Arroyo herself went whitewater rafting last 2002 and that is the start of the rafting popularity of Cagayan de Oro.

Catanico Falls - With a very cold water, the falls has been hiding at the center of the Catanico forest. The boulders along the falls and its natural pool makes its beauty with rapids of waters falling.

Mapawa Nature Park - Tourist and visitors come here for it’s excellent for horseback riding, biking, zip line and nature trekking.

Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village - You can see here the different tribes in Cagayan de Oro and in Northern Mindanao, with replicas of the tribal houses. Over looking the panoramic view of the Macajalar Bay perfect for unwinding with families and friends.

Plaza Divisoria - You can never see this place sleeping because all day and night people are waking up with it’s multicolored Huge strobes of light at night and the big screen where people can watch movies, Advertisements, City Tourism updates and of course known for Manny Pacquiao’s boxing fights replays. Of course the Night Café at the Divisoria area set up on Friday and Saturday nights. Locals and visitors gather in the streets of Divisoria to have barbecue and seafood, among many choices, and enjoy the music, beer, and also the great bargains from the nearby Night Market.

Kagay-an Resort - formerly Lawndale Spring Resort but is now developed by the Government and now operational. Perfect for family gataways on weekends and group picnics to ease the summer heat with its cold springs.

Macahambus Cave and Gorge - Perfect for Zip line, rappelling, and the monkey bridge/hanging bridge. The 130 foot (40 m) circular Gorge is fantastic. Down the Gorge are different types of plants and huge trees. It is the site of the historic battle between local and American soldiers during the Philippine-American War (1900).

Huluga - is an archaeological site in sitio Taguanao, barangay Indahag. It is composed of an open site and two caves where skeletal remains of a child and woman were found. A fragment of the woman’s skull was dated 377 AD by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. The open site is the venue of prehistoric settlement.

Malls and Shopping Center

Limketkai Center - one of the most expansive commercial complexes in the country. I can say one of the best Malls in Mindanao and it is still developing the place to make it grandeur. The Atrium is ideal for conventions, concerts, exhibits, and other events. Events held in the Atrium include concerts by local and foreign artists, beauty pageants, including the annual Miss Cagayan de Oro, and local and national conventions.

Robinsons Cagayan de Oro - Just behind the Limketkai Center and both attached together for the convenience of the mall rats and shoppers.

Gaisano City Mall - Gaisano is not a foreign to every cagay-anon because the city grows with it. Gaisano has been in the City ever since. It has branches all over the city.

SM City Cagayan - Albeit of its far location from the city proper, people still flocks together here specially on weekends because of it’s weekend entertainment program and most of the time with local artist present.

Makro - One of the Country’s number one wholesaler store. Makro has lots of branches all over the country.

Ororama Superstore - The Mega Center which just recently close after the fire incident, but it’s branches are still operating, the Ororama Super Center in Cogon area and Superstore in Carmen.
